It's one of those BASE jumps that you just can't pass up. The orchasmic trench of multichromatic sandstone sneaks up on you, invisible from only a few hundred meters away. As you approach, the undulating sage appears unbroken to the horizon, apparently easily traversed. You have to consider the consternation of the first westbound settlers... "California is just over those mountains... what the... oh, DAMN IT!"

The narrow uppers of the Little Colorado River Canyon lie on Navajo Nation land where instead of airborn recreation being categorically forbidden as in National Parks, it is guarded only by a $5 fee. Jumping into the canyon was only one brief stop on our recent southwest roadtrip, the full results of which can be seen here (click).
